Late Night Perusal

While writing this or pondering what to write for the first post, I find myself wondering how to begin what I hope to be a blog which will attract those who are also inspired to act - whether by positive or negative motivation. I love how Anthony Robbins says we are motivated by one or the other and sometimes this may shift in our lives or perhaps I wonder if we are motivated differently in different times or area of our lives.

In order to determine which way one is motivated, you merely need to determine if your distaste for something would move you away from it. Or would you be more apt to move if you had a goal you were working toward? I believe that again, in different areas and times in our lives we can be motivated by either.

For example, when first meeting your future spouse, you may have been motivated positively by the desire to be with them and any and all actions you took were to move you forward in the direction of that positive end result. However, for example, in the movie Invincible with Mark Wahlberg who is a bartender that walked on to tryout for the NFL football team and actually made it (based on a true story). He was negatively motivated by the letter his (ex)wife wrote to him calling him a loser and was thus inspired to prove her wrong - to move away from a negative view of himself.

In this same vein, there are many people out there today who are actually just numb and not moving in any direction or motivated by anything. How can someone live in America, land of the free, and not want to participate in the free enterprise system of moving toward a dream or goal (or away from whatever is their nightmare)? This is truly the question which, if it could be answered, perhaps would revolutionize the way affiliate-based marketing, social networking, and private franchising actually operates today. Or,as Alvin Toffler coined the phrase, "prosumerism".

We live in a land of so many opportunities, and at a time when there is so much confusion about where the economy is going. People are listening to and regurgitating information as if it were all facts in such a rapid manner it is hard to sift through what is fact and what is fiction. Discernment is being thrown to the wind in many instances as people really just want an answer to what is going to happen next. How can they just continue going on about minding their own business, making as few changes as possible, without losing their home and savings? Will they have to make changes and if so - what are the minimums?

My challenge to them is this: in order to inspire a nation and a generation to act so that the future of this country is secure for our children and their children and more generations to follow; we must find an internal motivator and inspiration that will take the governor off our current thought processes and enable us to move forward in a manner unlike the previous generations. We are no longer in the Leave it to Beaver days nor are we in the days of thumbing our nose at all authority and experimenting without regard to impact. We have gone beyond the time when we didn't realize change could occur as quickly as we now see it on a weekly and monthly basis. We aren't worried about whether we are going to get the information. The opposite is now true. We get information overload and our main concern is who is skewing the information and for what purpose. (Slightly remnicient of the days of propaganda proliferation during the cold war.) Now a war is being fought amongst all the propagandists out there and it would appear that those with the most time on their hands to create prolific amounts of material online and money to create it offline are the ones who will determine the 'current truths'.

How do we combat those forces which apparently have no ability to discern true and false, or right and wrong. How do we teach a generation of "plugged in" kids as well as adults how to work and play and be truly creative? All of these things relate back to ability to be inspired I believe. And moving forward with life in general.

What are the answers and is there a way to tie in the current marketing and economic trends with the need for inspiration? I believe there is. Ah, but I am jumping ahead to a post I will have to get to later. Please share your thoughts and help me motivate me to continue this discussion!
